how would a trigger help you in returning the number of rows returned without making two trips to the database?
I think, if you cant use the SQL%ROWCOUNT thing the only real option is to create a stored procedure that contains both queries and returns the value from sql%rowcount is there a reason Xavi that you can't use stored procedures?
