Yes - but I'm confused how you would handle such a thing after replication
or transfer?

If you link tables with your "local" (int) ID then you're back in the same
boat of non-unique keys when you move data around.  If you're only going to
use the UUIDs then why bother with the Ints?

It seems like you've got the same problems you started with, to me.  (But
then again, I am a bear of very little brain.)
