I'll answer to this question since I did some load testing in the
regards to Mach-II and the current beta release that is out.  Yes, it's
marginally faster - depends on load and a variety of other factors. 
Does it mean that cfelseif blocks are easier to read? No.  I would just
be aware that if you find a bottleneck with cfswitch being used - you
know the alternative.  Otherwise I wouldn't loose sleep over this at all
and go about your day as usually.  Remember don't pre-optimize before
you even know it's a problem!
