Well, there is some documentation with MG 1.x in the download, i think as much as there ever was with the quickstart guide and an explanation how to use coldspring with MG 1.1. But in any case, the core workings of MG 2 are basically the same as MG 1.x, with a few nice enhancements. So if you're only planning to use the core without scaffolding or ORM, then MG 2 will give that to you with online documentation and ongoing development / bug fixes.

The big changes in MG 2 are the addition of scaffolding, which automatically generates from your database everything you need to add, edit, list and delete "entities" using the scaffold tag, and the ORM stuff, which integrates either Reactor or Transfer into your MG app for you. And tighter coldspring integration as well. You could use coldspring with MG 1.x if you wanted to, but in MG 2 it's pretty much required.

Definitely 2. I'm not sure if patches are being released for 1 anymore
and the documentation on the website is for 2 only. Many people,
including Joe Rinehart, are confused about the project that I'm
working on that is based on 1 because 2 is so much better. It has
Coldspring wired in and some other stuff. But not having any
documentation for 1, especially after I asked for some, is a turn off
for me.

You can not have a standard without documentation. People can't follow
rules or guideliness unless they are given them.

Also, if I am to take the plunge, should I go MG 1.1 or 2beta?
