Hi Change, Some of you might remember me from my days at UW in years past. I now work on the India Growth team at Uber – we're hiring software engineers (and other roles) for my team, which I think is very relevant for Change members.
For me, in many ways this is the dream job I envisioned back in my ICTD days at UW – we're working on solving hard technical problems that directly improve lives of people in resource-constrained regions, both by fundamentally improving access to transportation and creating jobs (*thousands of new jobs every week*), with products that are used by millions on a daily basis. Some examples of the problems we're solving: * reinventing safety infrastructure <http://blog.uber.com/send-status-sos> and background checks <http://blog.uber.com/safer-together> to improve safety standards in coordination with local governments * rethinking digital payments <http://blog.uber.com/wallet> in a cash economy where regulations make paying with credit cards a difficult user experience * training underserved populations <http://blog.uber.com/india-women> to develop professional skills and improve their access to equitable earning opportunities Of the 50+ countries we operate in, India is one of the fastest growing markets in Uber's history. By providing access to safe, reliable, and affordable transportation at scale, we’re making India a better place to live and creating a model for technology improving lives in developing countries. If you're interested in joining us (or know someone who might be), feel free to get in touch with me at su...@uber.com. I'm also happy to chat about other roles or teams at Uber. Regards, Sunil
