It's not really nonsense.  For example, if your current directory is on
a FAT (not VFAT) file system, and you ask if "chicken-tmp" exists, you
will get an ENAMETOOLONG.

I'm away from my Linux box, where they are all installed,
and I can't ssh into it thanks to my ISP.
