Yes, yes, yes!

Seriously, Java's not that hard.  Anyone with a programming background can 
learn enough about the language to get started using libraries in a few 
hours. 

Yes, Java APIs are dense, and there are a lot of them, but the 
documentation for the JDK is first-rate, and there are scores of books and 
blog posts to help you out.
