Commercial Urban Agriculture 2012 Program

If you are ready to start your own urban farm or you work for an organization 
farming in an urban environment, the

Commercial Urban Agriculture Program is program for you. The course is a series 
of five, three–day weekend seminars, January through May (participants are 
expected to attend and participate in all five, three-day sessions). The 
program begins on Friday and continues on Saturday mornings with small class 
meetings. Participants then move into hands-on learning on Saturday afternoon 
and Sunday.

Growing Your Community Food System “From the Ground Up” Workshops

These workshops, located at Growing Power’s Community Food Center, are 
intensive, hands-on trainings offering diverse groups the opportunity to learn, 
plan, develop, operate, and sustain community food projects.

Project participants leave the workshop with improved skills that they can take 
back into their communities and pass on to others. These workshops are for both 
rural and urban projects.

2012 Two-day Weekend Workshops:
January 7th – 8th, February 18th – 19th, March 17th – 18th, April 21st – 22nd, 
May 19th – 20th, or June 9th – 10th Friday April 20th and Friday May 18th are 
special training days for Multicultural Alliance Building through Dismantling 
Racism.

Producer Grant Program CFP 
Deadline: November 15, 2011
Eligibility: Any producer or producer organization in the Southern region
What is Funded: Focus areas include beneficial insect habitat, alternative 
crops/livestock, organic agriculture, sustainable marketing products, 
sustainable grazing systems, soil organic matter, 
building/protection/management increasing sustainability of existing farming 
practices, appropriate technology and agroforestry/water quality. Producer 
Grants are used to conduct projects that solve problems farmers face and to 
develop information on what works and what doesn’t so that other farmers and 
ranchers facing those same problems can benefit from the results of the funded 
project.

communities by bringing "the whole food system" together to assess strengths, 
establish linkages, and create systems that improve the self-reliance of 
community members over their food needs.

Eligibility: Farmers and ranchers in the North Central Region: Illinois, 
Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, 
Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin
What is Funded: Proposals should show how farmers and ranchers plan to use 
their own innovative ideas to explore sustainable agriculture options and how 
they will share project results. New this year, there are three types of 
competitive grants: individual grants, partner grants for two farmers/ranchers 
from separate operations who are working together, and group grants for three 
or more farmers/ranchers from separate operations who are working together.

welfare of their farm animals.

raised.

eligible commodities, including fresh fruits and vegetables.
