You missed my point completely.  As a programmer with finite
resources, especially time, if I spend a year squeezing extra
performance out of a research program, I am essentially wasting 
my time.  The state of the art has not been advanced a bit.

If you had a good enough go program which only ran on a supercomputer,
the answer might be different.
