Recently I had to delete the registry entry for WordPerfect on my PC and reinstall same. When the new installation (including the new X3, so named because it is version 13 that superstition won't allow) my ability to search WP files for text strings was no more. The WP newsgroup said that this ability is not included with an OEM version of WP, but it seemed to carry over from an earlier full version that I had installed before getting the newer OEM version. Instead, the WP newsgroup suggested to install Google Destop as an alternative. There is a plug-in to make text in WordPerfect files available for Google Desktop search.

Google Desktop has been a problem. Soon after installation, Google Desktop use up to 99% of my CPU for searching the same file for a day or more: a graphics file. I contacted Google help, which told me which file was at fault and asked me to send same to them. No reply after doing so. I deleted the graphics file. For several days Google Desktop ran OK but now it once again is taking large portions of CPU. I have uninstalled it now.

Does anyone else know of a similar program for Google Desktop? The real reason that I want this kind of program is to replace the text search for WordPerfect. If necessary, I will uninstall WP and reinstall from version 5 to the latest version in hopes of getting somehow the search facility back, but this is likely to take two days or more of my time.
