Maybe try reselecting the "Sent Messages" folder: Settings / Mail / $Account / Account / Advanced / "Sent Mailbox", choose "Sent" (or maybe choose a different folder, then choose "Sent" again to insure that setting sticks).

Second, this might be a case of the phone wanting to save a previously sent message in the wrong folder "Sent Messages" (ie: it has a pending save to complete, but the target folder cannot be found).  Create the folder, let the iPhone do its thing, then delete the folder.

An iphone that was working flawlessly with courier imap, suddenly
can't connect any more. The user did nothing, so the problem likely
stems from some automatic update on the phone.

This has been happening on and off with iOS since 6.1 or thereabouts.

I don't know the reason, but the problem is common, and doesn't occur for all users, just an unlucky few.

IIRC, the problem is prevalent, regardless of the IMAP server type.

I don't think this can be solved on the Courier IMAP side, but maybe I'm wrong.

What we've found as a work-around, is to delete the account on the iPhone and create it anew.

Note! If the user has local mail folders, don't delete it without backing up first. :)
