Seems to me I remember Nathan Kline as one of the first handing out medication for
psychological problems. Well, not "handing out"--dispensing. But it went with or
without psychotherapy. One could get a prescription based on an interview. He also
dispensed "weight control" medication, which many folks were very enthusiastic about
at the time. It not only cut appetite but elevated mood significantly.
In an era when LSD and mescaline were really hot, this was, at the time, considered
pretty lukewarm stuff.
