Another goodie by my old friend in her bread and butter book......
The New York Sun in 1835 was in trouble; it was losing circulation, and
about to go under.
Benjamin Day was in trouble, but decided to do aomething about it and
called upon Richard Locke, a young reporter who was afraid he was going
to lose his job, to do something about it. He did.
In a series of 4 stories, the Sun came out with a story that the famed
astronomer John Herschel had landed at the Cape of
Good Hope in South Africa - just far enough away - and with him took a
revolutionary type of a telescope. Within 4 days, Herschel actually saw
an described in great detail of the telescope's great discovery of
plants and animals on the moon.
It was some time before the"scientists" got around to challenging the
dispatches, and by then the objective of increased circulation had been
met - The Sun had the largest circulation in the world by the end of the
series.
When I think of the Area 51, I think of Genesis 51 - Franklin's own
addition to the King James Bible that fooled even the Elders And then,
when I think of the Sun, well.....remember when NASA said there was life
on Mars......in 1963, there about, the rock to which they referred was
actually found - they were trying to get the attention of the news
media, to more serious things.....
Sometimes I think Clinton sacrificed his reputation, just to get people
involved in government again - after all, shortly before the turned
loose the dogs of war, he had met with the members of the Alfalfa Club,
along with Mrs. Clinton.....the club where the elite of the news media
meets....behind closed doors. Now the media always demands to know what
goes on behind closed doors....like in Watergate - remember that old
song.....We the the People should demand to know, what did go on behind
those closed doors that night - after all, we have the right to now.
