Another chemical attack in Australia
This follows the poison gas attack on Athletes arrviing at Sydney's Mascot Airport,
which was claimed to be the result of someone somehow accidentally releasing chemicals
into the air vents. (post to follow).

Hospital reopens after chemical contamination

A Victorian regional hospital reopened its emergency section today after closing
yesterday due to contamination when two road accident victims drenched in pesticide
were brought in.
Up to 40 different chemicals spewed onto the road and began mixing after a utility
carrying a load of pesticides collided with a truck south of Ballarat yesterday.
Both drivers were rushed to Ballarat Base Hospital after being soaked from the
spillage and suffering multiple fractures from the crash.
The driver of the utility, a man in his 30s, also suffered head injuries and later
died in hospital.
The 56-year-old truck driver remains in a satisfactory condition, the hospital's
executive director of clinical services, Dr Ian Graham, said.
Chemical vapours wafting from the pesticide which had soaked the two men was the main
source of the contamination in the emergency services department which was then shut
down.
Equipment and supplies were affected by the contamination, Dr Graham said.
�Our staff worked overnight to restock the emergency department and get everything up
to operational by 8am this morning,� he said.
The operating theatre was reopened last night after decontamination by the Country
Fire Authority materials group.
Fourteen emergency workers and other people who arrived early at the scene were
affected by the chemicals, some showing signs of nausea and eye irritation.
The Ballarat Base Hospital shifted its emergency care across the road to St John of
God Hospital where the 14 patients were treated and discharged overnight, Dr Graham
said.
Emergency staff did a �fantastic job� in their temporary location when three more
victims of another crash on the Western Highway were brought in for treatment, he said.
