D.C. Cops Obtained Sample of Condit Mystery Stain
Over the objections of Rep. Gary Condit's attorney Abbe Lowell, Washington,
D.C., police took a sample from an unidentified red mystery stain that they
discovered on a pair of Condit's pants found during their search of his
apartment Wednesday morning, NewsMax.com has learned.
"They didn't take the pants, but they took a scraping from the pants," a
source familiar with the Chandra Levy investigation told NewsMax.com.
The Washington Times reported earlier this week that Lowell "repeatedly
challenged the search team and refused to let them take a pair of pants
that had a red stain," but made no mention of the scraping.
Rather than demand that Condit's attorney hand over the evidence intact,
investigators decided to compromise and take the scraping instead. "They
were just trying to get in and get out and avoid Abbe Lowell's griping,"
the source said.
The stain, decribed as a "splotch," was blood-like in appearance. "Of all
the things it could be, blood is definitely one of them," the source told
NewsMax.com.
"If they thought it was ketchup I don't think they would have bothered
taking the sample. They took it because they want to check to see if it's
blood and whose DNA it matches."
Lowell's spokeswoman Marina Ein did not return a call Friday about the red
mystery stain. On Wednesday, a D.C. police spokesman told NewsMax.com that
he would not discuss the evidence found in Condit's apartment.
A sample of the red mystery stain, along with other possible blood specks
spotted by the police search team in Condit's apartment, is now being
analyzed by the FBI Lab in Quantico, Va.
