the Artists were the 38th Middlesex, I dont know if they were ever
designated the 1st Middlesex Volunteers but I could suggest another
candidate, namely the Finsbury Rifles who were the students of the Finsbury
Technical College which was the City and Guilds College and became Imperial
college along with The Royal College of Science and the Royal School of
Mines at the beginning of the last century. We have some silverware dating
from the 19th century from that source.
