In one of R' Yontev Ehrlich A"H, tapes (I believe it was probably the tape
called "kol m'vaser"), R' Ehlich quoted one of the gdolim of the previous
generation to the effect that even if mashiach does not come by the year
6000, our emunah won't be lessened one bit.
I haven't heard the tapes for a long time and don't remember any more
details (was it a hassidic or a mussar leader?) - but I always thought that
this was a brave and open-minded attitude.
