I'm very happy to announce the first release of FAI (Fully automatic installation).
FAI is a non interactive system to install a Debian Linux operating system on a PC cluster. You can take one or more virgin PCs, turn on the power and after a few minutes Linux is installed, configured and running on the whole cluster, without any interaction necessary. In addition, the configuration can be changed automatically on all Linux cluster nodes. Thus you have a scalable method for installing and updating a cluster with little effort involved. We use the Debian distribution and a collection of shell- and Perl-scripts for the installation process. Changes to the configuration files of the operating system are made by the tool cfengine. The home page for FAI is http://www.informatik.uni-koeln.de/fai/ FAI is free software, distributed under the terms of the GNU Public License, version 2. For more information, see the file COPYING. There is no warranty, expressed or implied, associated with this product. Use at your own risk. Comments, bug reports, fixes, enhancements etc. are welcome.
