Over the past months I have created a new Yodl version, which has now evolved
to version 2.00.06. Since I did not receive a response to earlier e-mails
sent to the maintainer (sent at Sep. 19 and Oct 13, resp.), I fear there's a
flaw in the line of communication. So, it's probably best to repeat the
essence of my last e-mail text here, hoping that this time it will reach its
intended destination:

Over the past months I've been working on upgrading Yodl, resulting in a
complete rewrite, to which I originally assigned version number 2.00, but
which has now evolved to version 2.00.06, reflecting some minor improvements,
based on Karel Kubat's suggestions, that I implemented in this version.

    Highlighting some of the changes:

    - Yodl is (much) faster than before;
    - Yodlpost is now a program, there is not conversion-specific post
      processing anymore;
    - The software has completely been reorganized;
    - A `letter' document type was added, based on the `brief.cls' document
      class;
    - Only the primary converters were kept, so yodl2dvi etc. have gone, since
      they don't really have to do with Yodl conversions.
    - Several new builtins were added, various names were rationalized;
    - Several new macros were added, various names were rationalized;
    - Each macro is defined in a file of its own, simplifying maintenance;
    - Several conversion types (like SGML and Texinfo) have been
      discontinued. Partially because they appear to be less important now
      than they once were (SGML), partially because -after consulting Karel-
      that seemed to be a proper thing to do (Texinfo). However, it should be
      fairly easy to revive these conversions once the need for them is felt
      again;
    - All maintenance is based on `icmake', not anymore on `make';
    - I coined a new name: `Your Own Document Language'.

I've been using the current version for quite some time now, and have used it
to build (of course) Yodl's documentation as well as my `C++ Annotations'
(http://www.icce.rug.nl/documents), so its most abvious shortcomings should
have been removed by now.

I would appreciate (and be proud) if Yodl-2.00.06 would be added to the Debian
distribution. Considering that it's been completely rebuilt, the `unstable'
distribution is probably the most appropriate one for the time being.

    I ran yodl_2.00.06_i386.changes through lintian and got no errors, so I'm
fairly certain that also in that respect Yodl-2.00.06 meets Debian's
requirements. Furthmermore, I'm willing to accept the role as either
`maintainer', 'co-maintainer' or `upstream author': I'm not sure what is best
in this case.

    Yodl (sources, .deb package, etc.) is at

        ftp://ftp.rug.nl/contrib/frank/software/linux/yodl/

Kind regards,

Frank B. Brokken

My humblest apologies for my delay in doing this. I've just uploaded
yodl 2.01.03-1 to unstable; let me know if you still have problems.

I'm glad to hear that somebody is taking care of stealth; I know Frank
was interested in getting that into Debian.

Cheers,
