Package: obnam
Version: 0.26-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

I am about to implement a tool that lists important files in my system
that aren't included in .git repos pushed elsewhere. The idea is to
backup local sensisive data (password files, delirious todo lists,
unofficial work notes, accounting stuff) and make it easy to do disaster
recovery by just restoring those and pulling everything else from
outside git repos.

Initially I thought my tool could generate a tarball, but then I thought
that if I could pass the file list to obnam, I could automatically get
remote storage support, encryption, deduplication and all the other
goodies.

Unfortunately, such an option (like tar's --files-from) doesn't exist
yet.

An extra fancy extensions to this idea would be to have obnam get a
tarball on standard input and treat it as a file system, so that my tool
could include in the backup some extra files generated on the fly, like
scripts to regenerate the .git repos or diff with local changes.

But I understand this last bit is something to put very deep into
someday/maybe.

Ciao,

Enrico
