Sorry for not being being precise enough. By "configured", I originally meant the uml-utilities conffiles. When you install uml-utilities and comment out the UML_SWITCH_START="false" line in /etc/default/uml-utlities, the init script will start one instance of uml-switch automatically on boot, with the mentioned location: UML_SWITCH_CTL="/var/run/uml-utilities/uml_switch.ctl" >> Although there is a patch debian/patches/uml_switch.diff against >> arch/um/drivers/daemon_kern.c, it is not used. I don't know how upstream feels about this, but since they are probably not concerned with GNU/Linux distributions (and FHS issues), I'd expect that they feel it is a non-issue for them. Since the default path is only a minor deviation from upstream and since it will benefit users who use the mechanisms added by the uml-utlities package, I'd rather have the patch applied again.
