If these patches are for the development version of wpa_supplicant, should they not be merged into upstream CVS, so that next time I take a snapshot, there is no need to carry along a large patch series?

It seems to me that the patches are for 0.4.8.

This is no defect, rather a wishlist item, IMHO.

well, some of the patches makes wpa_supplicant work on some machines. So
in some cases, they might be useful or even required.

If they are indeed required, then someone should tell Jouni that. And when they send a bug report to a distribution maintainer(s), information about the discussion with upstream can be referenced to, and all the pertinent information is available there.

Of course, I am not telling you anything that you did not already know Reinhard, I simply fail to see the purpose of this bug report.

wpasupplicant is missing a number of patches which can be found at:
http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/devel/wpa_supplicant/

for me personally most important is that one (which makes wep w/ orinoco
                based cards work again):

wpa_supplicant-wep-key-fix.patch
Please provide a distinct bug report for that issue.

I remember something.. wait.
I think this would be this bug:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/wpasupplicant/+bug/37396

But I'm not that sure.

Ok, will look.

furthermore I applied:
wpa_supplicant-assoc-timeout.patch
wpa_supplicant-auth-fallback-v4.patch
Why?

I'm a bit confused as well. Who wrote this patch? Who to contact him and
have they already been submitted/discussed upstream?

What about patches from SuSE and gentoo? ;-) (only joking)

Kel.
