has a changeset that implements a toggle command for the cli interface.
That might fix your problem already.
Beside that I'll do an extension to 'xmms2 current' which will allow you
to get the current playback status using xmms2 current '${pbstatus}' or
something like that, but that'll likely take some longer as it requires
a rewrite of xmmsc_entry_format to be done properly.
