This file isn't either generated nor installed by an alsa package. You can verify it by: $ apt-file update; apt-file search alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_empty.so > alsa-init: playback open error: No such file or directory Which app did you try here? Please close all sound apps and running daemons (arts, esd, jack) and do an # rm -rf /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_empty.so; apt-get update; dpkg --purge --force -all lib32asound2; apt-get install -f and report the results here.
