Well, the error was the permissions. Once the .pem files got the
openldap group and g+r permissions, it starts using the distributional
scripts well.
Although there is no obvious bug in the scripts, I really think that the
error should be reported clearly. Just if it spit out some "insufficient
privilegues on certificate files" error, everything would be alright.
The error messages are cryptic and useless currently.
