A license is compatible with the GPL if it does not include any restriction not present in the GPL. Interpretation: when you join (by linking) a GPLed work with another work, the results is a derivative of both works. If this is distributed, it must be done so under the terms of the GPL, which forbids adding any restrictions to the terms of the GPL.
