Hello there, I'd like some advice on a particular instance of Crown Copyright which includes a waiver for free distribution. I'm going to try and make out my case below, but I'd be very happy to hear other opinions -- particularly if the waiver is compatible with the DFSG.
The original text may be found here: http://xixona.dlsi.ua.es/corpora/UAGT-PNAW/COPYRIGHT Althought it might not appear to be something useful to Debian, a corpus such as this one can be used in creating software, such as machine translation systems between languages, and so could be useful to include in Debian. Thanks for your time and sorry if this has been answered before (I haven't been able to find it in the archives). Fran PS. I think it passes the Desert Island test, along with the Dissident and Tentacles of Evil tests. Although maybe 8(g) is problematic. ================================================================== ==1. Free Redistribution== "8. Provided that the Obligations and Conditions set out in this Guidance Note are complied with, there are no restrictions on how Material from the Record may be reproduced." "a) reproducing and publishing Material in any medium; b) making multiple copies for distribution and sale;" ==2. Source Code== I think this doesn't apply as the only form is the "source" form. ==3. Derived Works== I can't see anything about this. ==4. Integrity of The Author's Source Code== n/a ==5. No Discrimination Against Persons or Groups== The waiver does not seem to discriminate against any person or group of people. ==6. No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavour== I think it falls down here: "13. The Proceedings must not be used in connection with advertising or product endorsement or in any context which could be viewed as undignified association." (Really problematic) "14. The Proceedings must not be used in any circumstances which are knowingly or potentially libellous or slanderous of individuals, companies, organisations or political parties." (Wouldn't this be against the law anyway?) "16. The Proceedings must not be reproduced for overtly political purposes." (Really problematic) ==7. Distribution of Licence== See 8. ==8. Licence Must Not Be Specific to Debian== "12. All reproduction rights granted under the terms of this Guidance Note are non-exclusive and may be exercised throughout the world." ==9. Licence Must Not Contaminate Other Software== n/a -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-legal-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
