I've extended the virtual drive on VMware from 7 Gb to 8 Gb. Rebooted my guest Debian with Gparted and extended the drive with the 1 extra Gb successfuly. Rebooting again and starting my virtualized Debian I make a fdisk -l and it seems that the extra Gb is actually there.
