Hi list, we are having a problem with our nokia 7110 phones using kannel's at2 smsc module. it's not clear to me if our problem is with the phone, the sim card or with kannel, so i thought i might see if anyone on the list has any ideas.
our setup: 3 7110s connected via data cables (RS 232) to the serial ports of a linux box. we use kannel and the at2 smsc module connected to the phones to send/receive SMS periodically throughout the day, somewhere around 30 msg/day/phone. each phone is connected to a different mobile operator (3 different sim cards) (operators: "A","B","C"). this setup is basically an automatic SMS service testing application. the problem: after a variable amount of time (2 days to 10 days), the phone connected to one particular operator ("A") refuses to receive messages. it is perfectly able to send, but nothing is received (no indication in the kannel logs that anything has reached the phone). we turn off the tests for the first phone and let the other 2 continue to run. after another variable amount of time (several days), the phone connected to the second operator ("B") refuses to receive messages. at this point i become very frustrated. :-) i turn off the phones (removing the batteries), wait a few minutes, turn on the phones and restart the application. things work fine again for another variable amount of time (several days) before the entire process starts again. when restarting the phones, we often receive the messages that we were supposed to have received while the phone was blocked. the phone connected to operator "A" is always the first to stop receiving. operator "B" is always the second. we have not observed this behavior with operator "C", but maybe we haven't let the application run long enough... suspicions: i suspect that this has something to do with either the mobile network of operators "A" and "B" or with some sim card limitation. (not having must experience in this area, my suspicions might be way off) does anyone have any insight into this problem? any ideas at all would be welcome... kannel logs: this is the output found in the bearerbox log just before the phone ("A") stopped working the last time. 2003-02-12 08:47:00 [16] DEBUG: boxc_receiver: sms received 2003-02-12 08:47:01 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: TP-Validity-Period: 24.0 hours 2003-02-12 08:47:01 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: --> AT+CMGS=33^M 2003-02-12 08:47:01 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: <-- > 2003-02-12 08:47:01 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: send command status: 1 2003-02-12 08:47:01 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: --> 001100038139F90000A71ACDE2741A044DAF49900C069BB560B2564C0682E174B41B 2003-02-12 08:47:01 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: --> ^Z 2003-02-12 08:47:22 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: send command status: -1 2003-02-12 08:47:22 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: --> AT+CMGS=33^M 2003-02-12 08:47:22 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: <-- > 2003-02-12 08:47:22 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: send command status: 1 2003-02-12 08:47:22 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: --> 001100038139F90000A71ACDE2741A044DAF49900C069BB560B2564C0682E174B41B 2003-02-12 08:47:22 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: --> ^Z 2003-02-12 08:47:43 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: send command status: -1 2003-02-12 08:47:43 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: --> AT+CMGS=33^M 2003-02-12 08:47:49 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: send command status: -1 2003-02-12 08:48:01 [7] DEBUG: AT2[A]: <-- +CMS ERROR: 111 2003-02-12 08:48:01 [7] ERROR: AT2[A]: CMS ERROR: +CMS ERROR: 111 after this point, no messages are received by this phone until we power on and off. is this CMS ERROR: 111 (protocol error, unspecified) enough to "block" the receiving function of the phone? can it be "reset"? again, if anyone has any ideas about this problem, they will be greatly appreciated. please let me know if more info will help... thanks in advance for your help, Nick
