I advocated this move earlier in the year, but a majority of the core team didn't agree with me at that time. I don't see a problem with forked code bases, etc. I believe that variety and competition are healthy. Why force eveyone into the same mould? Giving people choices as to where and how they apply their skills can only increase the overall level of contributions. Everyone can choose the project that best suits them, or if none do, create their own. Anything else stifles creativity and innovation.
