The "nv" driver is a generic open source software and give people
fits. Try the nvidia site for their linux driver. The "nvidia"
module and "nv" are two separate pieces of software. I had to set my
monitor to vesa with the "nv" driver in order to get it to work, and
not very well. With the "nvidia" software everything worked
flawlessly, it even recognized the westinhouse lcd, which the "nv"
driver wouldn't do.

Apparently, nvidia won't let folks distribute their driver in
distributions, therefore everyone uses the "nv" software which sucks
big time!
