This is pretty amazing. The new Prime Minister of Japan
<http://www.kantei.go.jp/> recently launched an e-mail newsletter and it
already has 1,000,000 members. I doubt that any world leader has an
e-list this large - are you aware of other e-mail newsletters coming
directly from national heads of state/government? What are they used
for? How big are they? In this case, what attracted so many subscribers?

More than one-million subscribe to Koizumi's e-mail magazine

Want to know what Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is planning in the way
of structural reform? Starting today, you can find out through e-mail,
although it's only in Japanese. The Prime Minister has launched an e-mail
magazine as a way to explain his policies.

The e-mail magazine is distributed directly from Mr. Koizumi's office
every Thursday, free of charge to subscribers.

More than one-million people had subscribed to the magazine as of Thursday
evening. Mr. Koizumi said he was surprised that such a large number of
people have subscribed.

He said it's good that so many people are interested in politics.

Prime Minister Koizumi said it will be a major challenge for his
administration to make use of the magazine.

He said he hopes to work interactively with readers who send him their
opinions.
