Thanks, Kostas.  I tried that and it is certainly less pleasing on the eye.  
So, I'll stick with the skins and resize the Bandmap window every so often.

This is a known bug with the skins.
Under file>preferences>screen find the box Visual appearance and select "No 
skin selected"
Not so beautiful but the windows are steady in size...
