BACKGROUND OF THE APFEJ:Asia Pacific Forum Of Environmental
Journalists(APFEJ)was formally constituted in January 1988,at a
Regional Conference on Media and the Environment In Asia by the
UN-ESCAP.It is the oldest and the largest world organization of
professional environmental journalists grouping Over 8000 Members
 From 91 Countries including journalists working for newspapers,
magazines, radio,broadcasters,NGOs,environmental groups,UN,
government departments,agencies and free lancers.

APFEJ work programmes include specialized regional and international
training workshops on environmental reporting, publications such as books on
environmental reporting, newsletters, and a clipping service;technical
assistance for national chapters(NFEJ)as well as support to selected NFEJ
activities;journalist exchange programmes;research and study programmes for
excellence in environmental reporting.Many NFEJ members have their
own work programme.

## COLOMBO CONGRESS GENERAL INFORMATION ##

*DATE AND VENUE:
Congress will be held in a 5*Hotel in Sri Lanka,
from October 27-31,2002.

*LETTER OF INVITATION:
If a participant needs a letter of invitation to attend the
conference,please request if from the APFEJ HQ.However,this invitation
does not imply a commitment to payment of any expenses.

*VISA:
The APFEJ HQ will send you a letter of
invitation for visa purposes upon request before August 31,2002.

*CALL FOR ABSTRACTS:
We invite you to submit a maximum 500 word abstract in English to the
APFEJ HQ.The theme for the abstract is "Case studies of Media programms
undertaken by GO's,NGO's and Private sector in Developing countries
specially Asia-Pacific & The Commonwealth on Peace and Environment".
The abstracts must reflect on this theme or the congress agenda
themes.Papers from Journalists, media NGOs and academia are highly
encouraged.The deadline for abstract submissions is August 31,2001.

*COST OF PARTICIPATION:
Delegates are responsible for making their own arrangements for air travel to
and from the Congress.Special efforts are being made to assist the part
funding of living expenses/Registration Fees OR part air travel for
Asia-Pacific & The Commonwealth Member countries upon their request before
July 31,2002 with approx rate for return air ticket.The cost of subsistence
and accommodation for six days in Colombo Congress will be about US$ 800
(Hotel 70@6 +registration 300 + Airport tax,transportation and incidental
expenses 80).If anyone like to request twin sharing facility it will
cost only US$ 300 +registration and incidental expenses.
