The non-profit Rocky Mountain Nature Association invites applications for the year 2003 Fellowship Program in Rocky Mountain National Park. Rocky Mountain National Park is a "Crown Jewel" of the National Park System with a reputation for innovation in research and interpretive programs. Interpretive specialties include botany, zoology, geology, history, ecology, ornithology, wildlife sciences and park management. Research may range from wildlife programs to vegetation and riparian studies, fire ecology, cultural and social sciences, archeology and historic structures management. The Rocky Mountain Fellowship is an endowed program funded by the Justine and Leslie Fidel Bailey Trust. It is designed to encourage highly qualified graduate students to apply their talents in assisting the national parks. One fellowship will be awarded for the summer of 2003. The graduate student awarded the Fellowship will work with Rocky Mountain National Park resource managers and interpreters for a period of three to four months. Park housing and a stipend of $5,000 plus up to $3,000 for expenses related to research and program fulfillment are included in the program. The Fellow will be an employee of the non-profit Rocky Mountain Nature Association affiliated with its Rocky Mountain Field Seminars program. The Association has assisted Rocky Mountain National Park with educational and research programs since 1931. Basic Qualifications 1) Participant must be currently enrolled in, or in the process of graduating from, a graduate level program at an accredited college or university. 2) Participant must show proven excellence in scholarship, research or service in the fields of natural and/or cultural studies and interpretation. 3) Goals should include an interest in a career with national or state parks in park interpretation, natural or cultural studies, resource management, or environmental education. 4) Participant should exhibit the ability to communicate effectively at a level appropriate to public audiences. 5) Participant should exhibit a willingness to contribute to the purposes of the Rocky Mountain Fellowship Program and assist the National Park Service by sharing knowledge, skill and enthusiasm.
