It seems that the reason I've been unable to boot the powerpc no
matter how many times I try and the nasty words I use is that Apple's
incompatible with ISC dhcpd.

Indeed, the Apple is sending option 221.

I'm not clear on the patch makes sense to me because of the test for
the string "Apple MacNC" which I do not see in any requests from the
iBook.

I also do not see this as a reported "bug" for dhcp3-server.  Should
it be?

I'll try patching and see what happens.
