The patch seemed to apply cleanly, although the patch is for 3.0.1 and I have 3.0.5. Indeed booting the Mac dhcpd reports: Nov 6 12:53:17 ltsps0 dhcpd: Received BootP request from Macintosh netboot client which is from the patch, but Wireshark now reports that DHCP Discover gets a BOOTP reply (instead of DHCP Offer). And the mac then continues to send DHCP Discover packets. If I let the Mac boot OS X then the Mac does a normal DHCP Request and gets an IP. Maybe the patch didn't apply so cleanly after all.
