When I left TV broadcasting in the early 2000s, we had 2 & 4 way splits on some hd monitors using an interface device (can't remember its name). For an enormous sum, we could have as many displays as we wanted on the largest displays available. I know because my production manager wanted to redo the monitor wall for the main (News) studio control room and put it in the budget every year!
