I would suggest a dummy load be connected to antenna port #1 and your antennas to #2 and #3.   As to grounding, I suggest one review the ARRL book "Grounding and Bonding for the amateur station".

I've seen many ham stations that ground ground ground and still have issues, in some cases they attribute to a dangerous condition,  regarding lightning protection and RF grounding. There is a LOT of incorrect and incomplete information passed around with regard to grounding.  It is mostly originated as  "old ham lore" with no scientific basis found or applied.

And yes, the KAT500 has 3 antenna ports and port #1 is the default selected when power is not applied.

Interesting idea.
I have two antennas, so I could connect my ground to #1 and antennas to #2
and #3?
Just manually choose an antenna on start-up. Hm-m-m-m-m.

It has 3 antenna connections, not 4. It grounds the unused ones and

station is disconnected from the antennas when powered down.

Sorry if this is obvious, but I haven?t bought a KAT500 yet (to go with
the KPA500 I managed to pick up from a fellow ham). I?m aware there are 4
selectable antenna connectors. Does it ground or earth the ones not
currently selected?
