Yes, this list can be considered a tool, much like tech support.

Would I accuse you of not being able to do your job participating here?
Probably not.

I don't care if your company has ALL the MCSE's. Very few of them wrote the
friggin' products. The diversity of Microsoft's products alone does not
allow for knowing everything. Or even remotely close.

Mine, and I sure as h*ll don't like it. See the answer to Jamie Arnold's
message.

To be quite honest with all of you, the first time I saw Exchange was 10
months ago when the company moving into the building hired me to run
their
corporate network. I did Notes before. That's one of the many reasons
this
list, and others, is so valuable.

William - check out our web site to see how technical we are. We're not
just
a support or services company.

What kind of job description holds the title "must know everything"?

I'm not sure what high tech companies you're talking about, but wasting
time
figuring out something that a tech phone call could have solved hours
ago is
bad practice. Vendor Tech support is one of the tools at your disposal
for
troubleshooting, especially when it comes to software.

Software has bugs. Generally most bugs aren't even discovered until
after
release. Often they are communicated to the software vendor through
tech
support calls.

In a high tech company, calling tech support is considered a sign of not
knowing your job.

Most of us use them on a per call basis.

A very pricey acronym. They wanted $120K a year from us to start. That's
a
lot for a 200 person company.
