You made a good point about the quality of the fiber preparation.
One thing I have learned from experience is to only spin my own fiber or a well 
prepared roving.
How did I learn this?  By struggling with a bag of alpaca that was filled with 
VM.  I had worked out a cost for preparing fiber and would add that into the 
yarn price but this one was not worth my time.   After spending several hours 
trying to pick the fiber clean, I gave the mess back to the owner, explaining 
that the cost of my time picking it clean would make the yarn unreasonably 
expensive  and I asked her to prepare it for me herself to save $$.
She quickly decided that it wasn't worth her time either and the project was 
thankfully dropped.
