I don't want to start a flame war, as a matter of fact I'm trying to
head one off. It seems that every so often fink users need to be
reminded that fink is a completely free resource. It only exists because
of the vision of some and the virtually tireless work of many people.
Fink is not shrink wrapped software (even most commercial software
includes statement in the license that no guarantee is made that the
software will do anything useful). For those who may have have joined
the fink "wagon" lately, a bit of history is in order.

The entire fink project was initially conceived and executed by
Christoph Pfisterer. He made an enormous contribution to OS X being
accepted by *nix folks. I would go so far as to say part of the success
of OS X in general can be attributed to Christoph. After enduring
countless individuals who seemed to take the resource for granted and
assumed that it was a service to which they were entitled, he had had
enough. He has essentially moved away from the whole project.

Just be aware that when you post to the list for help, you are not
entitled to a response. If a project member posts a response that may
seem a little edgy, just remember that they are doing this fink thing
for free. He or she may have answered the same question several times in
the same week. Often there are posts to the list complaining about this
that or the other. It's not very often that the people that use fink
even stop to acknowledge the effort made by those who make fink
possible. Remember that the list is a place to ask for help, if you
don't get the kind of response you were expecting you can have double
your money back for what you spent for fink. Just chill out a bit,
please!
