This is normal behaviour! This is similar to dependencies to a handful of 
different autoconf, PNG, or JPEG versions. Some packages do *not* work with 
up-to-date software, others *only* work with up-to-date software. Fink keeps a 
few DPKG files, and it removes or installs their contents according to 
descriptions in the INFO file of the new package you want to install. (And, 
strangely, Fink and its software continues to work.)
