I must have forgotten your report. My bad. The new behaviour is in the
darcs tree already, fish doesn't syntax highlight the character under
the cursor at all. Should be readable on all terminals.

Though you can customize the color of the highlight using 'set
fish_color_match yellow' or disable highlighting matches using 'set
fish_color_match normal'. Unfortunatly, that only allows you to change
the background color, you can choose to instead highlight using the
foreground color. I would change that, only I'm afraid that a lot of
people upgrading from earlier fish versions would get wonky colors.
