ISTM that it depends on the mic. one uses. If the mic. rolls off at lower frequencies, everything may sound fine with no adjustments in the equalizer, whereas a very flat (broadcast-quality) mic. may have lows that are too loud once the frequencies above 3KHz or so have been cut off by the transmit filter.
