Fred, I don't understand what you're suggesting.
I think you are suggesting I post a file somewhere or possibly download a
file from the 'net and use that instead of what ever might be used currently
on this machine?
I opened a MS DOS Windows and entered set APPDATA at the c:\windows> prompt.
Got "Syntax error"

You should post the content of the fgrun preferences files located at :
%APPDATA%\flightgear.org\fgrun.prefs
( If you don't know what %APPDATA% means, open an command line window and
enter ( at the prompt ) :
set APPDATA
then replace %APPDATA% by the string after the printed '=' )
