Now I'm time-to-time write manual in russian, and wanted then
translate to English and share,
but now I give some detail here.
I'm not a profi and I have some question how do some things too. May be you
help me later.
1) you need shapes, grab it here
ftp://ftp.ihg.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/FGshapes (shapes of whole world, a
lot of downloading), or clip area you need here
http://mapserver.flightgear.org/
(try to find which of v0 or v1 layers are in your rectangle)
2) download terrain height data, area you need, here
http://telascience.sdsc.edu/tela_data/SRTM/version2/SRTM3/Eurasia/
3) draw and export airport in taxidraw
4) PREPARE: chop with FGSD-tools *.hgt files to heap of *.arr.gz
and replace all aports in apt.dat with only your aport, it saves a lot
of time when FGSD launches (backup
original apt.dat, of coz)
5) find name of your tile
I dont know naming system of tiles, so I simply put random
object in aport with UFO, dump data and look at first line in xml - it
is that you need,
3531408.stg in my case
6) configure FGSD, type paths to *.arr.gz and FG, check layers in
LandcoverDB tile, rename it if need
7) File-Open-File and open *.arr.gz that name you find in step#5
move zoom slider to find it on screen.
8) Tools-ImportCurves
9) Tools-Select Airport
10) Scenery-SimplifyTerrain
Scenery-EmbedCurves
Scenery-EmbedAirports
11) File-Export to your temp folder, and
replace with it files in your scenery (dont forget backup)
Thats all to have scenery look like in my screenshots.
But there are more step, that I'm actually do and so cant preview and
describe it:
12) Put houses-trees-vehicles with
UFO, export, add to scenery *.stg. May be open tile in FGSD and tune
its position.
13) Edit shapes. It can be done in FGSD, I even do
it, it may be done very precize with googlemap screenshot; but then (AFAIK)
U cannot export it and share :(
Now I looking for suitable editor, please help. Dont suggest
Landsat7, please ;)
Also sorry for my English.
If someone try this manual, fix errors (not orfo-gramma), rewrite it in
English and post to wiki, it would be very good.
Lets make FG world bright and true! :)
