        You're right, I can't remember..!

        I have some dim memory of digging in deep once to help out
        with a utf8 font problem, probably on X windows, and maybe
        even suggesting a patch.. but you're right, I can't remember
        specifics.

        I try not to remember anything I learn below the FLTK API..
        that's why I use fltk, so I won't have to! ;)

        In my mind, Oksid made the original fltk/utf8 miracle happen,
        and he kept it up to date through 1.1.6-3, but then had other
        things to do, so later Ian picked it up, syncing Oksid's 1.1.6-3
        to the latest fltk svn, 1.1.8 IIRC, doing cleanup and fixes on the way.

        I know I did some testing of Ian's release, and maybe got involved
        helping with one or two particular problems.. can't recall;
        those brain cells were re-purposed for remembering router passwords
        and what day of the week trash day falls on.

        I don't understand much about Unicode or the native font layers
        that fltk makes use of. I've dabbled in those APIs, but have no
        deep understanding of them, and hope I never have to..!
