I read a bit about the endeavour to make standard version of Markdown, but here I'd propose (Stephen, do you hear me?) to try add support for rendering AsciiDoc(tor) files which was already discussed in the past? It may be an easier task and AsciiDoc is much richer markup suitable for wider range of documentation.
