Sounds a lot like git and github. Git is probably as popular as it is
because of github, not because of git itself.

TotroiseSVN makes things easier for svn so the users don't have to
type all the commands.

If fossil had a more polished gui to move files and bring up boxes to
type in commit messages, it may be more popular too. As it is, most
fossil commands seem straight forward in my use cases.
